A Study on Mortaloty Status of Korean Rural Population

Abstract
A survey was carried out on 14,472 persons(2,626 households) during the period form the first of January to the end of the month, 1969 for the purpose of grasping the present status of mortality in Korean rural population; this study covered the structure of the population and age specific death reate during the year of 1968.
The following conclusions were obtained:
1. The total sample number was 14,472 persons. The size of the sampled population is equivalent to one out of 1393 persons among the whole population of the rural area.
2. The total number of death occurred to the population during one year (1968) was 119 consisting of 59 males and 60 females; the overall crude death rate was 8.2/1000.
3. When the death rate for 0-4 years age group was adjusted to 16.4 the crude death rate for Korean rural population was 8.9 for male and 8.7 male and 8.7 for female. The adjusted average crude death rate was 8.8/1000.
4. Age specific death rate differed by age groups; the highest death rate was found in 0-4 years age group and the lowest in 10-19 years age group (2.15) After the age of 20 years, (16.4) the death rate increased gradually as age advanced, but it increased more abruptly after the age of 50 years.
5. Comparing the calculated death rate obtained by this survey with officially registered death rate, the lowest registration rate was for 0-4 years age group, only 25.6% of all deaths, whereas for other agesere highter as to 85.5% in male and 63.0% in female.
